abrdn has announced today a new partnership with Coded by:, a nonprofit organisation in the US which prepares young people for leadership roles within the tech and start-up space through education programmes, resources and support.

Building for the long-term

Coded by: is built on a long-term model that moves students beyond initial exposure to developing their skills through sustained tech and innovation education programmes.

One of the key points on the pathway is Coded by: Academy, which provides ongoing opportunities for students (16-24) to apply their knowledge through competitions and professional internships.

Students that complete the Academy have the skills required to obtain jobs in tech that earn nearly twice the median income and are equipped with the core knowledge to start their own companies.

Engagement with abrdn colleagues

Supporting social mobility is a key part of abrdn’s social impact and group sustainability strategy, which includes financial inclusion and breaking down barriers to education and employment.

Coded by: is based in Philadelphia where abrdn has their largest US office, and colleagues will be able to actively participate by volunteering their skills.

We are excited to launch our first Powerful Partnership in the US working with Coded by: to break down barriers to education and careers within the tech industry. Technology is a key element of the abrdn Charitable Foundation’s strategy and a crucial enabler in our industry, so we’re delighted to help inspire the next generation of leaders in this space. As part of our global sustainability strategy, colleagues are entitled to three days volunteer leave a year and we look forward to engaging our US colleagues with Coded by: to provide skills based volunteering creating a truly impactful partnership.

Kirsty Brownlie, Senior Social Impact and Partnerships Manager, abrdn

Danae Mobley, CEO of Coded by:, highlights the significance of the new partnership with abrdn.

The partnership with abrdn is coming at an exciting time for Coded by:, as we are ten years in and continue to grow with strong foundations, increasing access to tech by providing young people with the necessary skills to pursue a successful career in tech. With abrdn, we can expand this and continue to increase our impact, taking the education the young people are receiving and translating this into tangible opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.
